Lemon Pepper Crusted Steak Recipe

Let's get cooking! For our first recipe in The Simple Staples cookbook, we will be whipping up some homemade lemon pepper seasoning to create a delicious Lemon Pepper Crusted Steak.

Steaks are never easy to make it home, and can often run a pretty penny at the store. With our Lemon Pepper Crusted Steak recipe, you can turn any cut of cow into a tender stovetop steak. The fresh lemon from your homemade seasoning will have every bite popping in your mouth!

We sincerely hope you enjoy making this. Please reach out with any and all feedback.

Seasoning:

5 lemons

Garlic powder

Salt

Peppercorn

Main Ingredients:

Steak (I used a 10oz Bavette)

Avocado Oil

Butter

Salt

Fresh oregano

First, we will make our seasoning from scratch. Start by laying out a baking tray and pre heating your oven to 200⁰ F.

Then, peel 5 lemons, spread the peels out onto a piece of parchment paper, and set them in the oven for 35 minutes to dehydrate.

While the lemon peels dehydrate, remove your steak from the fridge and its packaging and pat it dry. Salt your steak then cover it while it rests on the counter.

Once those lemon peels are done in the oven, get out your blender, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Drop the in lemon peels, 2 tbsp of peppercorn, 1 tsp of garlic powder, 1/2 tsp of salt and blend until coarsely ground.

Preheat your pan to medium high. Remove the covering from your steak then coat all sides with your freshly prepared seasoning.

Heat up 2 tbsp of oil in your pan and drop your steak in.

Sear the bottom side for 45 seconds.

Flip the steak and let it cook for 4 minutes.

Flip the steak again and finish off by dropping in 2 tbsp of butter and fresh oregano

If you want a better crust, make the seasoning the day before so it's fully dried out and rub the steak with an oil or something to bind it before seasoning. I think it's not as important flavor wise for this recipe since the flavor always infuses into the steak when made fresh.

Once the steak has reached 125⁰ internal for a medium rare steak, remove it from the pan and let it rest for about 5 min. Cut your steak against the grain and enjoy.
