Onion Peel Salt Recipe

Don't throw away your onion peels, do this instead! Greetings, everyone☀️ Who's ready to get scrappy? For our first recipe in The Simple Staple's scrap kitchen series, we will be showing you how to turn your onion peels into a flavorful onion peel salt.♻️🧑‍🍳

This onion peel salt is so delicious and you can use it on anything. We don't claim to practice zero waste, but we try to use it where we can, and this onion peel salt is an easy and simple way to turn scraps into gold. We know you will love it just as much as we do!😊

Ingredients:

- The peels of 3-4 vidalia onions depending on size

- 1/4 cup salt

- 1 tsp garlic powder

Start by preheating your oven to 375⁰ F. Next, peel your onions. Make sure to peel the outer layer and skin off, not just the skin. Once you have your onion peels, thoroughly wash and dry them.

After your onion peels are dry, spread them out on a baking sheet and toss the sheet in the oven for about 25 minutes to dehydrate. Time may vary, but what you are looking for is the dehydration of the thicker outer layer pieces.

While your onion peels are in the oven, take out a small blender, 1/4 cup ground salt, and 1 tsp garlic powder.

Now that your onion peels are done, ideally no longer than 30 minutes, take them out of the oven. Make sure to discard any pieces of the outer layer that may have not dehydrated, judging by the texture.

Stuff the onion peels into the blender along with the salt and garlic. Blend until all the skins have turned into powder and enjoy!
